The French Riviera, with its mild winters and average 300 days of sunshine a year was initially established as a winter resort. Even in winter you can eat your salad Niçoise outside in the sun!
Le Bar sur Loup is blessed with a pleasant microclimate where winter temperatures are particularly mild. Because of this, the village is dotted with orange trees, which were grown in the past for the local perfume industry. We still have four of them in our garden! We very rarely have snow, but you can sometimes see the snowy mountains in the distance up the Gorges du Loup or the pic des Courmettes. The local ski resort of Gréolières les Neiges is a 40 minute drive or 2 hours to higher resorts of Valberg and Isola 2000.
The village has a real community where shops and restaurants are open all year round, so you can walk to the village to buy your baguette and croissants everyday! We have 4 restaurants, a pizza take away, two general stores, post office, pharmacy and 2 bakers. We are close to facilities like supermarkets (10 minutes drive), local market (5 minutes) and all the practical shops of Plan de Grasse (15 minutes).
Thirty minutes drive away you are in the vibrant coastal cities of Nice, Antibes or Cannes which in winter are at their best. Stroll along the Promenade des Anglais or the Croisette in the winter sun with the locals. Fifteen minutes drive the other direction, you are in the mountains with nothing but nature, sheep and goats for company. Enjoy the picturesque mountain villages and the many spectacular hikes.
